Top Three Thursday- Things you'd bring to a deserted Island

This week's top 3 is on things you'd bring to a deserted island!
I'm going with the ones that popped into my head right away.
1.Computer and Internet (I don't know how to make that happen, it just needs to)
2. Big Pot & Pasta (lifetime supply)
3. David!! He can make and fix anything! He's good to have around!

Davids list is very different from mine as he is being practical.

1.) Magnet for navigation and finding other metals.

2.) An Ax for hunting and basically anything

3.) Large Flint for starting fires

Top Three Thursday- Movie Series

This week's top three is on favorite movie in a series. Most of the sequel movies out there are boy movies like Star Wars, Kill Bill, Die Hard, the Terminator, etc.. Mine aren't really in any particular order.
1.) National Lampoon's Vacations- I like watching these and especially the christmas one. Always good for some laughs.
2.) Meet the Parents/Meet the Fockers- So funny! I need to see these again soon.
3.) Pirates of the Caribbean- Johnny Depp is great in these movies. Love them.

Top Three Thursday- Talents

This weeks topic is top three talents that we wish we had!
1.) I wish I had the talent to sew! My sister and I were talking about this and we want to be able to take our pants up (because they are always too long) and shorten curtains, replace buttons, make pillows etc... The good thing about this talent is that this can be learned! So one day we want to take lessons and learn how to do the basics. We did take home economics in high school and made stuffed animals. My mom, grandma and Aunt sew quite well, we've just never had the interest when we were younger.
2.) Ability to sing! I don't want to be a professional, I just want to sound decent. I only sing in my car, in front of David (sorry) and my sister because I know I'm that bad.
3.) Be more crafty & creative- This one is just a general statement. I wish decorating, crafts and projects came more naturally. My mom is super crafty and some of that rubbed off on me, but not fully. This one I can also try to work on, but the natural ability just isn't fully there. I wish I had a room that looked like this.

Top Three Thursday-Purchases

This week's top 3 is on top purchases we've made recently!
1. Roomba- I continue to love my roomba. You can see my post here, where I showed you how he works. It saves so much time and really does get the job done. He is a welcome member of our "cleaning crew".
2. Crockpot/Slow cooker- The other week when we were going to have David's parents over for dinner. I made burned BBQ pulled chicken. I didn't add enough bbq sauce and it burned the crockpot. I scrubbed for over a week and it wasn't going to come out. It's time for a new crockpot! We haven't actually purchased this yet, but this is what we want. Something that is programmable so we can set the time for increments instead of just the low, high settings we used to have. Mine is never in there for 8 hours, its usually 9-10 hours  by the time i get home from work. This one also has a locked lid so no spilling during transport!
3. Nalgenes!- I recently purchased these water bottles or as Leah likes to call them, Nalgenes. The brand is Nalgene so she just calls it that, but they are water bottles to me. The name is growing on me though. The good thing about these is that they are made in the USA, they are bpa free and dishwasher safe! I got matching ones in different colors for David and me. It really helps to keep track of how much water you are drinking daily. You can get these at REI.
I know Michelle's top purchase will be here new Iphone4!! I took her to the airport this morning and 5 minutes before we left, the door bell rang. It was Fedex with her new Iphone!!!! We knew it was going to be delivered today before 3, but her flight was at 2 so we had to go. She will have to do a post reviewing it. I just love the way it looks!

Top Three Thursday-Places to Shop

This week's top three is on places to shop! I am not a huge shopper, I guess I could/would be if I had all the money in the world.
1.Target- You can get everything there. If I could pick only one place, this would be it. I like their clothes, shoes, decorations, basically everything.
2. Ann Taylor Loft/The Limited- I used to shop at the Limited all the time, but the quality of the clothes aren't as long lasting as I'd like. They don't wash that well, so I only occasionally go there now. I have switched to liking Ann Taylor Loft (and their outlet).
3. Coach Factory Outlet- I really should put Kroger here since I go at least once a week and spend about $300 a month there. That was boring so I chose Coach Outlet.  It is so fun in there and I love trying to go to find deals. In my opinion you should never pay full price for a coach purse. I only go probably twice a year, or I'd be in trouble. This sounds like I have a million purses, but I only have 1 and 1 wallet (that's self control). I have been to look for deals for my sister/family though.

Top Three Thursday- Websites!

You've probably heard me talk about most all of these websites, but I'll elaborate on why these are my top 3 websites!
1. www.5dollardinners.com. I love this site because not only does she have great recipes, they are also very practical and affordable. Most all her meals for a family of 4 are $5 total. Even though we are only a family of 2 right now, its still good practice and her site just ties in to my lifestyle of healthy, affordable meals. She also just came out with a cookbook that I haven't ordered yet, but its on my list.
2. www.SouthernSavers.com. I visit this site daily for deals. She is in the south and her coupon match-ups are compatible with my region. She has 14 stores that she matches up coupons with each week. I spend a few hours on her site before I make my grocery list each week. Every Sunday, when Kroger puts out her ad I can count on southern savers to have the match-ups posted already.
3. www.ThePioneerWoman.com. Her website is ridiculously amazing. I normally only go to her cooking page every day, but if you look at all her tabs it's crazy. She cooks, does photography, home schools, has a home & garden section etc.. She has great recipes and instructions on step by step on how to make something. Be sure to click on the cooking page and tasty kitchen.

Runner ups- Atlanta Bargain Hunter- always good deals and happenings in the Atlanta area. Budgets are the New Black. I like her site because she talks about getting out of debt and financial obstacles that most families face. She is also a military wife and its interesting to read her stories. Fairhope Foodie. She pairs her recipes with Publix shopping trips and I just like a majority of the things she cooks. Sometimes I read blogs about recipes and say, "man, I wouldn't eat any of this". But with her recipes, most all of them are "my style" and not hard to make. What are your top 3 websites? They don't have to be food related, but apparently I love food and that's what I read about all the time! Pin It

Top Three Thursday- Games

This week's top three is on games. This could be games board games, video games, phone games, games to watch etc... Here is my top 3!
1.) The Game of Life! I used to love playing life when we were kids. I loved picking out the car and going around to see what your career was going to be and how many kids you were going to have. If only real life was as easy as spinning a wheel!
2.) Uno- David and I like to play this game. We had a game called Uno Attack that was also fun. Some other card games we like are Rummy, Poker (David) and Euchre.
3.) Match Game and Newlywed Game- These ones I just love to watch on the game show network. They are so funny and they have to be the ones that aired back in the day and not the new ones.

I also like to play Super Mario Kart on my sister's Wii or Playstation 2.  What are your top 3 games? Pin It

Top Three Thursday- Iphone Apps.

Today's top three is on Iphone Apps! I'm sorry if you don't have one, they are the best phones ever and we are both addicted to ours. Since David and I both have them we will both share ours. He is guest blogging his top 3!
1.) Dragon Dictation: I like this one because I spend a lot of time on the roads or in a rush and don’t have time to type out a long text. It's a voice recognition software that types what you speak. This app. works great about 95% of the time, which is pretty good.
2.) Google Search: I like this app. a lot. I just tell it what I’m looking for and bam there it is. You speak instead of typing out what you are searching for. It can also link to your maps so it can show you the way to the place you just looked up.
3.) Jibbigo: Now this app I don’t use as much as others, but I think it is worth the shout out on my top 3. It is very similar to the dragon diction app, but it changes the English to any other language you want and says it for you. It also goes the other way so if someone says something in Spanish it will say it in English.  This little app. will be coming on our trips for now on (it works while on airplane mode so you don’t get any data charges out of the U.S.).
I have a ton more but those are the 3 I use the most.
Jen's top 3 App's- I choose apps that are cool, but not that common. I'll share my everyday apps. after too.
1.) Knocking Live Video: This app. is really cool. You can knock with someone else who has an iphone. They just have to sign up for an account. Once the other person answers you can see what is on their screen like a video camera. We used it when my brother and sister were in Mexico. I got to tour around their hotel and hang by the pool. The only downside is that there is no voice, so you can't hear anything.
2.) Air Cam (costs money): This app. you can use with a camera that is on your laptop/computer. We set it up so that we could watch Molly during the day. You just have to install software on your computer and you can log into it using your IP address. We get to see Molly sleeping on the couch and when she would get up, we can tell what direction she is going, but not exactly what she is doing. It is still really cool. Here is a picture I took from my camera that showed Molly on the video, it's a bit blurry though. She sleeps a lot, but is so darn cute.
3.) Stitcher- This is an app. that has podcasts. They are like mini radio shows on a variety of topics. I like to listen of course to the Dave Ramsey podcast, and Money girl. David introduced me to it so he loves the technology podcasts. You can choose your favorite shows and it updates everyday with a new show to listen to.
The more common ones that I love are of course Facebook, Redbox, Pandora, Tmz, The Weather Channel, Usa Today, Dish, and Bank of America.
What are some of your top apps? We are always looking for new fun ones!

Top Three Thursday- Books

This week's top three Thursday post is on top 3 books we've read in the past year. I do a lot of online reading at blog sites and articles on current events. My mom and sister are big readers of fiction books, like the Janet Evanovich's series. I, on the other hand, only like books where I can learn something. I like educational books on personal finance, investing, the housing market, or anything I can relate to my personal life to make it better. I might be weird, but that's just what I do. Here is my list!
1.) My favorite book I've read in the past year was Dave Ramsey's The Total Money Makeover. I'm sure you've heard me talk about him before and it might sound a little obsessive, but I don't care. This past year on the way home I started going to the AM channels to find some talk radio I could listen to on the way home. I like to hear people talk and all I could find was sports and serious news channels until one day I heard talk about personal finance and money. Why, it was the Dave Ramsey Show! He takes calls and hears peoples problems on debt, investing, and anything money related. I liked his advice and kept hearing things like baby steps and debt free and was intrigued enough to buy his book (gently used of course). Well this book was life changing (hope I don't sound too psychotic). We just realized that living pay check to paycheck wasn't really working for us when we had 2 jobs and had nothing left at the end of the month. We are on baby step 2 and hope to be debt free besides the house within a year.I just have one more thing to say about him. We are seeing Dave Ramsey at the Total Money Makeover Live Event in Atlanta October 2nd! To say that I am excited is an under statement. Ok, I'm done now.
2.) This book was recommended to me from Leah at work. The cover looks very cheesy and all that, but its a really interesting book. It's about learning your spouses love language so you can speak the same "language". If your spouse likes words of affirmation and you never compliment them then they don't really feel the love even though you may be spending all the time in the world with them. What is your love language? Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service or Physical Touch. After reading the book I would think about people I know and try to figure out their love languages. It really explains a lot about someone and how you can communicate better with them. My love language is Acts of Service and Quality Time with Gifts as my last one. You can take the online quiz, but to really understand it you should read the book. I highly recommend it.

3.) I don't have a third. My sister and I are doing this book trading thing. We made a list of books we want to read and I take one and she takes one and then we switch to save some money. So, I'll just list some books that I am looking forward to reading this year.
-The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey.
-The Millionaire Next Door
-48 Days to the Work You Love, by Dan Miller
-No More Mondays, Dan Miller
-Good to Great, Jim Collins

What are your top 3 books, and do you have any recommendations for me with the style of books I like to read? I'm always looking for suggestions. Pin It

Top Three Thursday- Bucket List

This week we are talking about the top 3 items on our bucket list. I am going to do a combo with some of David's and mine. Until this week, I really haven't thought about mine. I need to sit down and write some out. As soon as David and I were talking about his, a few of mine came to me. I'll share some of my sister's too, I thought she was funny.
1.) Live in a Foreign Country for an extended period of time (1-2 years) with our family including kids. This one is David's. While he was working in Dubai for 4 months a few years ago he met Karl and his family. They lived in an apartment over looking the beach. They had a young son and got to travel all over, they even had a nanny/maid/cook that was live-in. I'm sure that is what sold David on the situation.
2.) Go on a Mission Trip (David)- He wants to travel (are you seeing a pattern here) and work on building houses for people who are in need. He is so handy that this would be very rewarding and beneficial.
3.) Become Debt Free- Including the house! This one is mine. If you couldn't already tell, we are on the Dave Ramsey plan. If you aren't familiar with his ideas, you use baby steps (just like the movie) to 1. Get a baby emergency fund, 2. Pay off all debt, not including house (cars and student loans included), 3. Get 6-8 months expenses saved up, etc.. I really want to be able to pay off everything including the house so one day we can "live like no one else!"

Here are some of our other Bucket List items:
-Buy a beach house in the Caribbean (in cash)
-Be our own boss
-Visit every continent
-Own rental property/Fix up houses and sell them

My sister wants to meet Oprah or Ellen and participate in one of those trapeze circus places where you wear the harnesses! Shes silly.
